UF MGOLF: Carlos Bustos Joins Gators as Graduate Transfer

Men’s golf welcomes Division II First Team All-American from Lynn University.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida men’s golf head coach JC Deacon announced the addition of Carlos Bustos to the Gators’ 2020 class on Friday.

“Carlos brings plenty of experience to our program after winning two National Championships at Lynn University,” said Deacon. “I love his energy, skill set and competitiveness. He instantly makes us a better team.”

A graduate transfer from Lynn University, Bustos is eligible to play for Florida immediately. The Santiago, Chile native will arrive on campus boasting an impressive resume after four seasons with the Fighting Knights.

During his senior season, Bustos recorded a 70.47 scoring average over 17 rounds played. Through six events, he notched four top-10 finishes, including his first collegiate win at the Fort Lauderdale Invitational where he shot 15-under 201 – the lowest 54-hole total in program history. Bustos’ success on the course during the 2019-20 season earned him NCAA Division II  First Team All-American honors.

As a junior, Bustos was an integral part of the Fighting Knights’ 2019 DII National Championship. At NCAAs, he tied for 28th in stroke play, then went 3-0 in match play to help Lynn claim its second consecutive title. Overall, Bustos competed in all 12 tournaments during 2019-18 and posted a 72.56 scoring average with three top-10 finishes. Following the season, he earned PING Honorable Mention All-America honors and PING All-South Region recognition.

His sophomore year, Bustos appeared in 11 tournaments, recording a 72.51 stroke average with two top-10 finishes. That season, Bustos clinched the DII National Championship for Lynn, taking down the top-ranked golfer in the nation, Chandler Blanchett, in match play.

As a freshman, Bustos played in 10 tournaments for the Fighting Knight, posting a 74.53 stroke average with three top-10 finishes.

Bustos is the sixth addition to Deacon’s 2020 signing class joining fellow Lynn transfer Giovanni Manzoni as well as Ryan Hart, Jonah Leach, Joe Pagdin and Tyler Wilkes.
