UF MBK: Gators Welcome Florida Native Sam Alexis

Alexis comes to UF as a junior after two seasons at Chattanooga

GAINESVILE, Fla. – Florida men’s basketball has added Apopka native Sam Alexis, a 6-foot-9 forward who comes to UF as a junior for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Alexis averaged 10.8 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per game while shooting .550 from the field during his sophomore campaign, earning All-Southern Conference and SoCon All-Defensive Team honors in 2023-24. Alexis also garnered SoCon All-Freshman honors during his freshman campaign in 2022-23.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sam into our program here at Florida,” head coach Todd Golden said. “He’s a great young man who excels both on the court and in the classroom. With Sam being from Apopka, it’s great to add another native Floridian to our group. He’s already proven to be a great finisher, rebounder, and rim protector, and we expect him to continue expanding his game on the offensive end.”

With 65 appearances and 32 starts over his two seasons at Chattanooga, Alexis scored 516 points and grabbed 287 rebounds. He recorded 11 career double-doubles, 15 double-figure rebounding games, 25 double-figure scoring games and three 20-point games.

Alexis attended Apopka High School, where he earned 2022 first-team All-Metro Conference and second-team All-Central Florida as a senior.

In each of Golden’s three offseasons at Florida, he has brought a Florida native back to UF via the transfer portal, including Alex Fudge in 2022 and Walter Clayton Jr. in 2023. Alexis is the Gators’ first addition via the transfer portal this offseason and joins freshman signee Isaiah Brown of Orlando, who inked his National Letter of Intent with Florida in November.
