UF MBK: Florida Welcomes Tyrese Samuel

The 6-foot-10 grad transfer averaged 11.0 points as a senior, starting all 33 games at Seton Hall.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men’s basketball has added graduate transfer Tyrese Samuel to its 2023 transfer class, head coach Todd Golden announced on Monday.

The 6-foot-10 Samuel brings 118 games of experience across four seasons at Seton Hall, where he grew into a full-time starter as a senior and averaged 11.0 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting .550 from the field in 2022-23.

“We are happy to welcome Tyrese Samuel into our program here at Florida,” Golden said. “His addition will solidify our front line for next season. He is a proven producer at the highest level in college, and we believe he has the ability to continue to improve. He’s a great athlete who has scored and rebounded very efficiently in the Big East. We enjoyed spending time with him and his sister on his visit, and confirmed that he would be a great fit for our program from a culture perspective. We are really happy to have him!”

Samuel from Montreal, Quebec, tallied eight double-doubles at Seton Hall and saw his minutes, scoring and rebounding production increase every season with the Pirates. He is a three-time Big East All-Academic Team honoree who is set to graduate this spring.

Samuel was a two-time All-Canada selection at Orangeville Prep in Ontario in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Prior to that, he began his high school career at Riverdale Baptist School in Upper Marlboro, Md., where he won a Maryland state championship in 2017.

Samuel is the Gators’ fourth addition via the transfer portal this offseason, joining EJ Jarvis, Micah Handlogten and Walter Clayton Jr. Florida has also inked a pair of incoming freshmen in Thomas Haugh and Alex Condon.
