UF MBK: Castleton Named to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award Watch List

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame recognized Florida senior Colin Castleton on Friday as one of 20 watch list members for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award. Named after Class of 1995 Hall of Famer and three-time NCAA Champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the annual honor in its eighth year recognizes the top centers in men’s college basketball.

Castleton, named to the preseason All-SEC team earlier this week, averaged 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game last season and is one of seven seniors on Florida’s veteran roster in 2021-22.

College basketball fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2022 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award will be narrowed to 10 and then in late February to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Abdul-Jabbar and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee where a winner will be selected. Players can play their way onto and off of the list at any point in the season.
