Current Gators Assistant Coach Regy Thorpe will lead the U.S Box Lacrosse team in his second stint as head coach.
UTICA, N.Y. – Florida lacrosse Assistant Coach Regy Thorpe is set to represent the red, white and blue as the head coach of the United States Men’s Box Lacrosse Team in the World Lacrosse Box Championships. The 10-day tournament will run from Sept. 20 – 29 in Utica, N.Y.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the prospects for this group.” said Thorpe. This is Thorpe’s second stint as a head coach of the team, as he led the U.S. to a Bronze Medal in 2019. The central N.Y. native also played as a part of the U.S indoor team in the 2003 and 2007 championships, where he conquered two bronze medals.
Thorpe wrapped up his third season in Gainesville this past year, where he has helped anchor the Gators defense into a top unit nationally. In 2024, Florida’s defense ranked seventh nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 8.52 goals/game. UF held opponents to a .350 shooting percentage, while holding the opposing team to under 10 goals 17 times and to five or less goals five times in route to the programs first Final Four appearance since 2012.
The U.S. will kick things off in group play tomorrow against five-time Silver Medalists Haudenosaunee at 8 p.m. on ESPN+. All of the United States games will be on ESPN+, with the Gold Medal Game being broadcasted on ESPN2.
