Defender Leigh Lingo comes to the Gators from Virginia Tech

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida women’s lacrosse team has officially announced the addition of defender Leigh Lingo to the program as a transfer on Friday.

The graduate transfer comes to the Gators from the Virginia Tech where she competed all four years as an undergrad.

The Rehoboth Beach, Del. native recorded a total of 83 groundballs, 45 caused turnovers, nine draw controls, one goal and one assist during her collegiate career.

During her senior campaign, she started all 14 games she competed in, tallying 22 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers. She also scored her first collegiate goal on her Senior Day against Boston College.

In the shortened 2020 season, she started all 10 games – registering 13 groundballs and 12 caused turnovers on the year.

During her first two collegiate seasons, she totaled 48 groundballs, 20 caused turnovers and seven draw controls, earning 26 starts in 36 games.

Lingo also got it done in the classroom at Virginia Tech, earning three ACC Academic Honor Roll selections.

Prior to Virginia Tech, Lingo graduated from Worcester Preparatory School, where she was a three-time ESIAC First Team All-Conference selection and two-time team captain. She won the ESIAC Player of the Year and led her team to three-straight ESIAC Conference and Tournament championships from 2015-17.

The Rehoboth Beach, Del. native was also a two-time First Team All-American during her time at Worcester Prep.
