UF LAX | Four Gators Earn AAC Weekly Honors

Grace Haus, Shannon Kavanagh, Sarah Reznick and Cara Trombetta each pick up AAC accolades in week 6

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After sweeping the first conference series of the season against Temple last week, four Gators earned American Athletic Conference awards, as the league announced Monday.

Shannon Kavanagh earned her second Midfielder of the Week honor this season, while Cara Trombetta nabbed her second Defender of the Week honor this year. Sarah Reznick was tabbed as Freshman of the Week for the third time in 2021 and Grace Haus earned a spot on the Honor Roll for the third time to round out Florida’s honorees.

Kavanagh tallied 14 points on nine goals and five assists in the first league games of 2021. She also notched eight draw controls, three caused turnovers and two groundballs in the victories.

In Friday’s game, the senior recorded five goals on nine shots for a .556 shooting percentage, to go along with two helpers and a career-high three caused turnovers. The Smithtown, N.Y. native also notched seven points in Sunday’s game, tallying four goals and a season-high three assists.

Trombetta had the job of marking Temple’s leading point-scorer Meghan Hoffman last weekend and held her to just 1-of-5 shooting with only one assist. Hoffman came into the weekend averaging 2.43 assists per game, putting her 14th in the nation.

The fifth-year senior also recorded 12 groundballs, five caused turnovers and two draw controls over the course of the weekend. Trombetta tallied six groundballs in each game, setting a new career-high.

Reznick totaled 115:28 in the cage against the Owls, notching 21 saves while only allowing 14 goals. In Friday’s matchup, the redshirt freshman registered 11 saves with a .579 save percentage and picked up two groundballs.

In Sunday’s game, Reznick allowed only six goals – her second-lowest total of the season. She recorded a .625 save percentage in the game, to go along with 10 saves and a career-high four groundballs.

Haus registered two hat tricks against the Owls to earn her spot on the honor roll. The senior scored three goals on a .750 shooting day in Friday’s matchup, while also picking up two groundballs in the victory.

The Baltimore, Md. native finished Sunday’s game with five points on three goals and two assists and tied her career-high with one draw control.

The Gators are back in action on for the 2021 home opener on March 26 against Cincinnati. Opening draw for the first game of the series is set for 4 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
