As a team, Florida earned IWLCA Academic Honor Squad status
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida lacrosse team once again showcased its success in the classroom, with the entire team earning IWLCA Academic Honor Squad status. A total of 285 schools across Division I, II, III and NAIA earned this distinction for the 2020-21 academic year.
To qualify for IWLCA Academic Honor squad award, the team must have posted a 3.2 or higher team GPA for the academic year. The Gators recorded an astounding 3.48 GPA during the spring semester.
Along with that team honor, five players earned a spot on the 2021 IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Roll. Emerson Cabrera, Sarah Reznick, Cara Trombetta, Maeson Tydings and Emma Wightman earned the prestigious academic distinction.
To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must academically be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. The IWLCA honored 814 student-athletes from 99 different institutions on the 2021 Division I Academic Honor Roll.
These five honorees push the total number of academic honors to a program-record 80 for the 2021 campaign (SEC Spring Honor Roll – 27; SEC First Year Honor Roll – 11; AAC Honor Roll – 37; IWLCA – 5).
On the field, Florida swept both the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, while going undefeated in league play for the fifth-straight season. The Gators finished the season with an 18-3 record – making the program’s sixth NCAA Quarterfinal. The squad collected four IWLCA All-America honors, 10 All-AAC accolades and swept the six major AAC postseason awards.
