UF BSB: Gators Split Fall Doubleheader with Georgia Southern

Florida’s fall split with Georgia Southern featured a pair of home runs by freshman Deric Fabian and a four-hit day by Wyatt Langford.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida baseball split its fall doubleheader with Georgia Southern on Saturday, as the Eagles claimed game one by a 3-1 score before the Gators rallied and came from behind to take game two, 7-6.

Freshman Deric Fabian homered in both games of the doubleheader, ultimately finishing 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Barco finished with four strikeouts in two innings pitched while throwing a first-pitch strike to all six Georgia Southern batters.

Georgia Southern struck first in the game, scoring one run in the third via an RBI single by Jesse Sherrill.

Florida evened up the score at one run apiece in the bottom of the fifth, as D. Fabian launched a solo home run off the right-field foul pole.

Florida relievers Finnvold and Hartman both pitched scoreless innings of relief for the Gators in the fourth and fifth to keep the game at 1-1. In the top of the sixth, Georgia Southern plated an unearned run, with Sherrill coming in to score as Noah Ledford bounced into a six-four-three double play.

Georgia Southern added a third and final run in the seventh on an RBI single by Sherrill.

Game Two | Florida 7, Georgia Southern 6

Florida and Georgia Southern exchanged runs in the first inning of game two, with the Eagles jumping out to a 1-0 lead as Parker Biederer scored on a wild pitch. That one-run advantage was short-lived, thanks to a solo home run to straightaway center field off the bat of Thompson in the bottom half of the frame.

In the top of the third, Noah Ledford put Georgia Southern up 3-1 with a two-run double down the left field line. The Eagles added another run in the fourth on a bases loaded walk.

After connecting on a solo homer in game one, D. Fabian entered as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fourth and proceeded to send an 0-1 offering over the right field wall for a two-run shot. The Eagles extended their lead to 6-3 in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run by Noah Searcy, but it would be all Gators from that point forward. Florida answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, as Thompson drove in Prevesk with a single to right field. J. Fabian followed that up with an RBI single of his own, scoring Corey Robinson to bring the Gators within one run.
