BIRMINGHAM –The UAB women’s soccer team will take on crosstown rival Samford on Thursday evening at the Samford Soccer and Track Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
BLAZERS OPEN UP 2021 SEASON ON THE ROAD
The Blazers began its 26th season of play with a pair of road matches. In the opener on Aug. 19, they fell to Chattanooga 1-0 before bouncing back with a 2-1 victory at Kennesaw State on Aug. 22.
THE SERIES VS. SAMFORD
Thursday’s match will be the ninth time the Blazers and Bulldogs meet. The series began in 2007 with the Bulldogs edging out the Blazers 2-1 in overtime. The following season, UAB was a 1-0 winner. The teams exchanged wins in the next four matchups before tying the past two last seasons. The series is tied 3-3-2.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
The Bulldogs are 0-1-1 on the season, falling in their season-opener to Auburn 2-1 on Aug. 19 before playing Middle Tennessee to a draw on Aug. 22.
COMMON OPPONENTS
The teams have six common opponents this season – Alabama, Auburn, Chattanooga, Kennesaw State, Mercer and Middle Tennessee.

The Blazers have had success against teams currently in the SoCon, going 12-6-3 all-time.
