UAB Women’s Soccer Travels to FIU

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a thrilling 2-1 victory over Middle Tennessee in the first conference match of the season on Sept. 17, the Blazers will head to the Sunshine State to take on FIU on Sept. 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT) /7 p.m. (ET)

UAB LATELY
In UAB’s win over Middle Tennessee, Jessica Wheeler scored her second straight game-winning goal. The Blazers took an early lead 1-0 lead after Carlyn Presley found the back of the net in the 16th minute, but in the second half, Middle Tennessee got the equalizer in the 52nd minute.

With 5:07 remaining, Wheeler was able to find her way behind the Blue Raiders’ backline and score on an assist from Morgan Halliwill.

UAB now has wins over Chattanooga, Kennesaw State, Samford, and Middle Tennessee.

FIU LATELY
FIU opened up conference play with a 0-0 draw against UTEP before falling to Rice 3-0. The Panthers dropped their first two games of the season before grabbing back-to-back wins over Stetson and Southern University in the first month of the young season. Since their win over Southern, the Panthers have failed to find the win column, in part because they have had 3 matches either postponed or ruled no contest due to lightning in the area..

THE SERIES VS. FIU
The Blazers and Panthers have met three times with each team recording a win, loss and tie since the series began in 2013.

LAST MATCH VS. FIU
In UAB’s win dominant 5-1 win over FIU in 2017, Amy Brewer recorded a hat trick on the Blazers’ way to their seventh victory in a row on Sept. 29, 2017.

COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and FIU have nine common opponents, all of which are Conference USA teams.
