UAB Women’s Soccer to Host Intersquad Scrimmage

BIRMINGHAM – Due to safety concerns, Middle Tennessee has canceled Sunday’s women’s soccer match. Now, the UAB Women’s Soccer team will host an intersquad contest. The noon kickoff time will be unaffected.

Admission at BBVA Field will be free and open to the public. The concession stand will not be open, but fans are permitted to bring their own snacks and beverages. Alcohol is not allowed. Masks are required and social distancing mandates will be enforced.

Prior to the contest, the UAB Department of Athletics will recognize senior Johanna Popp for 2020 Senior Day. The redshirt senior keeper has been with the Blazers since the 2016 season and has been a part of squads that have 30 victories and a pair of Conference USA Championship appearances.

Individually, Popp played in six matches last season, recording a pair of shutouts. In her clean sheet at Samford, she had a career-best 10 saves. She also turned away six shots against UTEP, FIU and nationally ranked TCU.
