UAB Women’s Soccer Signs Sidney McGregor

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women’s soccer head coach Erica Demers has announced the signing Sidney McGregor (Grapevine, Texas/Grapevine/Seminole State College).

“We are very excited to add Sidney to our roster this coming January,” said Demers. “We were able to see her at the Juco National Championships where she represented and captained her team.”

A 5-9 defender, McGregor will join the team in January 2022. She’s spent the previous two seasons playing at Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla.

In her time with the Trojans, she made 33 starts anchoring one of the top defenses in the country.

This past season, McGregor led the Trojans to a 15-3-4 record, a berth in the NJCAA Final Four and a Region 2 Championship. She led a defense that only allowed 10 goals against and recorded 11 shutouts in the 17 games she played in. SSC finished the 2021 season with a No. 3 national ranking.

As a freshman, McGregor helped Seminole to a 14-1-1 mark, a Region 2 Championship, with their only setback coming in the national semifinals. She finished the season with two goals and three assists for seven points. In her 16 matches played, the Trojans had nine shutouts and a GAA of 0.56.

“Sidney excited us with forward thinking in the center back position, one we will continue to develop and use as a part of our tactical growth in the backline. Welcome to the Blazer Family Sid,” added Demers.

McGregor joins Abbey Burns, Hannah Clark, Olivia Mickey, Claire Rea and Brielle Rochester as the UAB 2022 class.
