UAB Women’s Soccer Releases 2021 Spring Schedule


BIRMINGHAM – UAB women’s soccer head coach Erica Demers has released the team’s Spring 2021 schedule. The 13-game slate will feature seven matches at BBVA Field and six Conference USA matches.
 
“We are extremely excited for our schedule to be finalized and to be honest to compete again against an opponent,” said Demers. “Our non-conference schedule will bring a lot of excitement and learning to prepare for our C-USA schedule. We are looking forward to our season ahead for Spring 2021.”
 
After an exhibition game at home against Montevallo on Jan. 28, the Blazers kick off the 2021 season at Memphis on Feb. 4. The Tigers, who advanced to the 2019 AAC championship game, are coming off a 17-3-1 season and a berth in the 2019 NCAA tournament.
 
UAB opens with a three match homestand at BBVA Field beginning Feb. 7 against Mercer. The Bears were 1-4-1 in the 2020 Fall season, including a 2-1 setback to the Blazers on Oct. 17. On Feb. 11, ULM comes to Birmingham. The Warhawks were 0-10-0 in the 2020 Fall season. On Feb. 14, UAB hosts North Alabama. The Lions were 6-11-0 in 2019.
 
The Blazers travel to cross-town rival Samford on Feb. 18. The Bulldogs finished 2019 13-4-5 en route to winning the SoCon championship and advancing to the NCAA tournament. UAB remains on the road when it travels to Alabama State on Feb. 21. The Hornets were 5-15-0 in 2019, including a 5-0 loss to UAB at BBVA Field.
 
The Conference USA season opens on Feb. 26 when UAB hosts Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles were 7-10-1 overall and finished in 12th place with a 2-7-1 C-USA record.
 
The nonconference season wraps up on Mar. 7 when Mississippi State comes to BBVA Field. The Bulldogs were 2-4-3 during the Fall 2020 season. This marks the first time since 2015 UAB has hosted a Power 5 team (Louisville) and the first time hosting a SEC team since Ole Miss in 2013.
 
League play resumes on March 14 at UTEP. The Miners 10-7-3 in 2019 and 5-4-1 in C-USA play (7th), falling to North Texas in the first round of the C-USA Championship.
 
On March 21, UAB hosts UTSA. The Roadrunners were 8-8-1 overall and finished 10th place with a 4-6-0 record in C-USA play.
 
UAB travels to defending C-USA champion North Texas on Mar. 26. The Mean Green were 15-6-1 overall, 7-2-1 in C-USA play, finishing second. UNT won the Conference USA tournament and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. UAB knocked off the previously undefeated Mean Green at BBVA Field, 1-0 on Oct. 13, 2019.
 
Rice comes to Birmingham on April 2. The Owls were 10-6-3 overall, finishing third in C-USA with a 6-1-3 record. They advanced to the semifinals of the C-USA Championships.
 
The regular season wraps up at Louisiana Tech. The Lady Techsters were 13-4-3 overall and 5-4-1 in league play.
 
The 2021 Conference USA Championship will be held April 13-17, hosted by Rice in Houston.
