BIRMINGHAM – UAB women’s soccer head coach Erica Demers has released the Blazers’ 2022 schedule. The 18-game slate features two 2021 NCAA College Cup teams, 10 Conference USA matches and nine contests played at PNC Field. Additionally, UAB will travel to Vanderbilt for an exhibition match on Aug. 8.
“We always want to prepare our players for conference matches through our non-conference games and this schedule allows us to do just that,” said Demers.
Prior to competition, UAB will host “Kickin’ It With the Blazers” on Aug. 13, which is a free meet and greet with men’s and women’s soccer teams for fans 12 and under. The event will feature a soccer clinic, a scrimmage alongside the Blazers and an autograph session.
In addition to UAB’s preseason match at Vanderbilt, it will host Belmont on Aug. 14 at PNC Field prior to the commencement of the regular season.
Three of the first four matches of the 2022 season will be at PNC Field beginning with Chattanooga on Aug. 18. After traveling to Georgia Southern on Aug. 21, the Blazers return to Birmingham to face Kennesaw State on Aug. 25. Both the Eagles and Owls were one victory away from a berth in the College Cup as they both fell in the Sun Belt and ASUN title games, respectively.
Defending American Athletic Conference champion Memphis comes to PNC Field on Aug. 28. The Tigers finished the 2021 season 14-5-2, advanced to the second round of the College Cup and had a final United Soccer Coaches ranking of 20.
September begins on the road with a pair of Pac-12 matches. On Sept. 1 UAB faces Arizona State before making the 100-mile trek to Arizona on Sept. 4. This road trip marks the first time in program history the Blazers have traveled to a Pac-12 school.
Crosstown rival and defending SoCon champion Samford comes to PNC Field on Sept. 8. The Bulldogs are coming off a 16-3-3 season and advanced to the second round of the College Cup, defeating Auburn in the first round before falling to St. John’s in PKs.
Nonconference play ends at Tennessee Tech on Sept. 11.
UAB’s final season in Conference USA begins Sept. 18 against Middle Tennessee at PNC Field. The Blazers travel to FIU on Sept. 22 before returning to Birmingham to host Florida Atlantic on Sept. 25.
UAB travels to Texas to face UTEP on Sept. 29 and North Texas on Oct. 2.
The Blazers host UTSA on Oct. 9 and Charlotte on Oct. 13 before hitting the road for the next two matches on Oct. 16 at WKU and Oct. 23 at LA Tech.
The regular season closes at PNC Field against Rice on Oct. 29.
The 2022 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Championship will be held in Charlotte Nov. 2 through Nov. 6.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to play against some great programs and coaching staffs and push our players to do their best each day. We are extremely excited as a staff to get going this August,” added Demers.
