UAB Women’s Soccer Overseas Update: Kelsey Daugherty

BIRMINGHAM – Former UAB goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty, who signed a professional contract with Swedish soccer club Djurgården IF Fotbollsförening (DIF) in February, began Allsvenskan League play in April.

In her first match with Djurgården, Daugherty earned a clean sheet by stopping four shots in its 1-0 victory over Örebro.  Daugherty had the save of the match after stopping a penalty kick from Örebro’s Karin Lundin in the 72nd minute, preserving Djurgården’s 1-0 lead.

Through four matches this season, Daugherty has a goals against average of 1.75.

Djurgården’s 22-match season runs through the first week of November. Next up is third place Hacken on May 17th.

Prior to playing in Sweden, Daugherty was a member of the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League for four matches during September and October 2020.
Daugherty signed her first professional contract in June 2019 with Fortuna Hjørring of the Elitedivisionen league in Denmark, where she played in 13 contests.

As a Blazer, Daugherty graduated as one of UAB’s most decorated student-athletes. She capped her senior season by being named Conference USA Goalkeeper of the Year, First Team All-Conference, United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team and was a member of the Conference USA All-Academic First Team.

She finished her career as UAB’s all-time leader in saves with 351, second in shutouts with 16, third with a goals against average of 1.35 and fourth with 28 victories.
