UAB Women’s Soccer Hosts Rice for Senior Day

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s soccer will wrap up the regular season on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Rice at PNC Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The Class 2022, Stella KissSha’Nya Stephens and Addison Cline will be honored before the match.

UAB LATELY

UAB’s (9-3-4, 6-1-2 C-USA) program record 10-match unbeaten streak ended last Sunday against LA Tech. With a victory over Rice, the Blazers will be the No. 2 seed in the Conference USA Championship.

RICE LATELY

Rice (11-7-0, 9-0-0 C-USA) clinched the Conference USA regular season title after its 3-1 victory over Middle Tennessee on Oct. 26.

THE SERIES VS. RICE

Rice leads the all-time series 10-5-0 that began in 2005.

LAST MATCH VS. RICE

In 2021, Rice held off UAB 2-1 in Houston.

COMMON OPPONENTS

UAB and Rice have one common opponent outside of the league, Samford. UAB defeated the Bulldogs 1-0, while the Owls fell 1-0.

FEELING 50

Head coach Erica Demers notched her 50th career victory against WKU last Sunday. Her first victory was a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern in her head coaching debut on Aug. 18, 2017.

THAT’S TWO THREE FOR ASHA

On Sept. 27, Conference USA announced that Asha Zuniga was the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. This is her third honor this season, as she took home the award on Aug. 17 and Sept. 20.

CLARK GETS HER FIRST GOAL AND FIRST HONOR

After scoring her first career goal, which was the equalizer in UAB’s 1-1 tie against UTSA,  Hannah Clark was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11th.

SCHOLARS AND BALLERS

Zuniga, Morgan Halliwill and Carlyn Presley were all named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team. Zuniga was named to the first team, while Halliwill and Presley were named to the second team.

UAB TO THE AAC STARTING IN 2022-23

On Thurs., Oct. 21, American Athletic Conference officials announced that WKU, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC. They will compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The UAB women’s soccer team will begin AAC play in the 2023 season.
