UAB Women’s Soccer Hosts Florida Atlantic BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s soccer team looks to begin the Conference USA season with three straight wins for the first time since 2006 when it hosts Florida Atlantic on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
Asha Zuniga’s header off a Claire Rea free kick in the 65th minute was the only goal of the match in UAB’s 1-0 victory over FIU on Thursday. The Blazers are 5-2-2, 2-0-0 and are tied for first place in C-USA with North Texas and Rice.
The Owls are coming off a 1-1 draw against UTEP on Thursday. FAU is 5-3-3, 1-0-1 and tied for fourth place in C-USA.

In nine total matchups, FAU has won seven. The teams have two draws.

FAU’s Madison Davenport’s goal in the 79th minute was the game winner as the Owls got by UAB 2-1 on Sept. 29, 2019.
UAB and FAU have 10 common opponents, with Memphis being the only nonconference match.
Sunday’s match is Youth Day. Kids who wear their youth soccer jersey will get free admission to the match.
The Blazers make a Texas roadtrip beginning with UTEP on Sept. 29 and North Texas on Oct. 2. The next home match is against UTSA on Oct. 9 at noon.
UAB TO THE AAC STARTING IN 2022-23
On Thurs., Oct. 21, American Athletic Conference officials announced that Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC. They will compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The UAB women’s soccer team will begin AAC play in the 2023 season.
