UAB Women’s Soccer Falls to Chattanooga 1-0 in Season Opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn – UAB outshot Chattanooga 16-5, but could not find the back of the net as the Mocs got by the Blazers 1-0 on Thursday afternoon at the UTC Sports Complex.

The lone goal of the match was scored in the 72nd minute by Samantha Shaw.

UAB had chances in the 1st half, sending seven shots towards Mocs keeper Ashton Shields, with six on target.

The Blazers had a chance to get on the board in the 62nd minute when Laura Zemberyova’s shot from outside the box hit the crossbar.

Lexxe Lipsey finished with a match-high four shots. Lucy Thrasher had three shots, Zemberyova and Stella Kiss each had a pair.

Shields finished with 10 saves.

UAB remains on the road to take on Kennesaw State (0-1-0) on Sunday. The Owls fell 1-0 to Charlotte in its opener earlier this afternoon.
