UAB Women’s Soccer Begins Two-Match Roadtrip Starting at WKU

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s soccer team looks to extend its unbeaten streak to a school record 10 matches on Sunday when it travels to WKU. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Bowling Green, Ky.

UAB LATELY
UAB (8-2-4, 5-0-2 C-USA) is on a nine-match unbeaten streak (6-0-3) dating back to September 1. The Blazers are currently in second place in C-USA with 17 points.

WKU LATELY             
WKU (6-5-3, 3-2-1 C-USA) is coming off back-to-back wins over FIU and FAU. The Hilltoppers are currently in fifth place in C-USA with 10 points.

THE SERIES VS. WKU
WKU leads the all-time series 5-3-2. The teams began the rivalry in the Hilltoppers’ first season in C-USA, 2014. WKU has never lost to UAB in Bowling Green, going 3-0-1 in that span.

LAST MATCH VS. WKU

Lexxie Lispey found the back of the net in the 28th minute in the Blazers’ 1-0 victory over WKU in the 2021 C-USA Championship quarterfinals.

COMMON OPPONENTS

UAB and WKU have nine common opponents, all in C-USA. The Hilltoppers tied Tennessee Tech, but UAB’s match against TTU was canceled due to rain.

ON THE VERGE OF 50
Head coach Erica Demers is looking for her 50th career victory today. Her first victory was a 1-0 win over Georgia Southern in her head coaching debut on Aug. 18, 2017.

THAT’S TWO FOR ASHA
On Sept. 27, Conference USA announced that Asha Zuniga was the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. This is her second honor this season, as she took home the award on Aug. 17.

A KEEPER WORTH KEEPING
Eve Beyer was named Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 4. In the Blazers’ 1-0 victory at UTEP on Sept. 29, the senior turned away three shots. She followed that with a five save performance on Oct. 2 – including a huge save with three seconds remaining in the match to preserve the 0-0 draw.

CLARK GETS HER FIRST GOAL AND FIRST HONOR
After scoring her first career goal, which was the equalizer in UAB’s 1-1 tie against UTSA,  Hannah Clark was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11th.

LOOKING TO GET BACK ON TOP
The Blazers are ranked No. 2 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Ranking South Region poll. UAB moved down one spot from last week’s poll.

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT  
UAB is 24th in the NCAA and first in C-USA with a .540 shot accuracy.

GIMME FIVE 

UAB’s five match winning streak from Sept. 8 to Sept. 29 was the fourth longest in program history.


NIFTY NINE  
UAB’s eight nine unbeaten streak ties the longest in program history. UAB also went unbeaten in nine straight matches in 2017.

UAB TO THE AAC STARTING IN 2022-23

On Thurs., Oct. 21, American Athletic Conference officials announced that WKU, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC. They will compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The UAB women’s soccer team will begin AAC play in the 2023 season.
