UAB Women’s Basketball Visits Conference Leader Old Dominion

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team will head to Norfolk, Va. for its final road C-USA contest of the year to face league leader Old Dominion Thursday night.

UAB (18-10, 10-6 C-USA) is in the hunt for one of the final top four spots heading into a huge road contest. The Blazers are looking for back-to-back wins for the first time since its six-game win streak ended with a loss to Rice on Feb. 6.

Rachael Childress pulled out another explosive performance last Saturday against UTSA scoring 24 points in just 21 minutes of action going 4-for-5 from behind the arc and shooting 66.7 percent from the field overall.

Old Dominion (24-4, 14-2 C-USA) is undefeated at home this season with 14 wins at Chartway Arena. The Monarchs went on an 11-game win streak earlier this season and handed Rice its first conference loss since 2018, beating the Owls 66-59 on Feb. 13.

The Monarchs lead C-USA in scoring defense allowing just 54.4 points per game, which is 10th best in the NCAA this season. ODU has the second-best rebounding margin in the league and average 13.9 offensive and 28.3 defensive rebounds per game.

“ODU has had an outstanding season and are playing extremely well,” said head coach Randy Norton. “Our team is excited about another opportunity to play our best basketball and compete together.”

UAB defeated ODU early in conference play with a 76-65 win in Bartow Arena. The Blazers are one of only two conference teams to take down the Monarchs and scored 20 points over ODU’s defensive scoring average. Childress and Imani Johnson each put up 17 points in the win while Miyah Barnes (13) and Trista Magee (11) also scored in double-figures.

Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST on Thursday night in Norfolk. The game will be streamed on CUSAtv.
