UAB Women’s Basketball Travels to Murfreesboro for Rematch with Middle Tennessee

BIRMINGHAM – After falling to Middle Tennessee 62-52 last Saturday, the Blazers will get a chance for revenge on the Blue Raiders home court Thursday night in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

UAB (16-9, 8-5 C-USA) are still in the hunt for a top four seed in the conference tournament with a tough stretch of games to close out the season. The Blazers are in control of their own destiny as they face three of the top four teams in the final five games of the regular season. The Green and Gold look to avenge their losses against Middle Tennessee and Rice this week before traveling to Old Dominion to take on the conference leading Monarchs, whose only conference loss of the season came on Jan. 4 in Bartow Arena.

The Blazers hope to find their rhythm offensively as the top scoring team in the league has struggled to shoot the ball over the last three games averaging just 52.0 points off 34.0 percent shooting.

Middle Tennessee (17-8, 9-4 C-USA) sits at fourth in conference standings with games left against UAB, UTEP, WKU, North Texas and Charlotte.

In the last meeting with the Blazers the Blue Raiders held UAB to a season low eight second quarter points and seven fourth quarter points en route to a 10-point victory. Anastasia Hayes led all scorers with 17 points and Charity Savage recorded a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

“Our team has had a great week of practice and is ready to get back on the court and compete again,” said head coach Randy Norton. “Every time we take the court our girls understand that it is special and they don’t take a moment of it for granted.”

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
