UAB Women’s Basketball Positional Preview: Posts

BIRMINGHAM – As the 2020-21 women’s basketball season gets underway this week with an exhibition against Spring Hill on Friday night, UABSports.com will provide the fans with a positional preview with insight from head coach Randy Norton. Today focusing on the posts Zakyia WeathersbyDestinee McGheeSara Rosenfeldt and Jasmine Gracie.

Zakyia Weathersby | Senior (5th Year) | Center | Collins, Miss.
Weathersby is coming off a stellar 2020-21 season in which she averaged a double-double of 13.7 ppg, 12.3 rpg and was named All-Conference USA Second Team. Additionally, she led C-USA in rebounds with 282, a 58.2 field goal percentage and double-doubles with 14. She had four 20 rebound games and 16 with 10 or more boards.

Norton on Weathersby: “Kyia is playing at a very high level right now. Her confidence is very high and she has become a great leader for us.”

Destinee McGhee | Freshman | Forward | Huntsville, Ala.
McGhee is one of the Blazers’ newcomers after transferring from Arkansas. In addition to bringing SEC experience to the table. A highly recruited player out of Madison Academy, McGhee was three time Alabama High School Athletic Association First Team All-State selection and a teammate of Gracie.

Norton on McGhee: “Destinee has big time ability. She is going to be a force to be reckoned with down low. The unique thing about her game is that she can step out and shoot the 3. She’ll be hard to stop.”

Sara Rosenfeldt | Senior | Forward | St. Charles, Ill.
Rosenfeldt is coming off a 2020-21 where she played in every game and made 14 starts, seven of those in C-USA play. In her three seasons at UAB, Rosenfeldt’s minutes have increased each year. She’s the team’s second leading returning rebounder behind Weathersby.

Norton on Rosenfeldt: “Sara gives a tremendous effort every single day. She is the ultimate team player and will do whatever you ask of her. She gets offensive rebounds, takes charges and gets loose balls. Sara’s high energy always impacts the game.”

Jasmine Gracie | Sophomore | Forward | Huntsville, Ala.
Gracie is coming off an injury suffered in the first game of the season last year. In her first season at UAB, she played in eight games and hit 67% of her shots from the field.

Norton on Gracie: “The plan last season was to use Jazz as the first post off the bench, but her season-ending injury changed that. She’s worked really hard to get back to 100%.”
