UAB Women’s Basketball Earns C-USA Academic Excellence Award

DALLAS – The UAB women’s basketball team has earned the Conference USA Academic Excellence Award for the 2019-20 season. This marks the second time in three years the Blazers have taken home the award.

The C-USA sport academic awards are given to those programs with the highest team GPA in their respective sports.

“I am extremely proud of our team and the work they have put in in the classroom,” said head coach Randy Norton. “This is the second time in three years they have earned this distinction and it reflects the tremendous character they have exhibited in the classroom, on the court and in the community.”

The Blazers finished the 2019-20 academic year with a GPA of 3.58, marking the 10th straight semester with a team GPA above 3.0. Over a dozen women’s basketball student-athletes made the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll and sophomores Sara Rosenfeldt and Emily Frasco earned C-USA Academic Medal honors.

Senior Rachael Childress was named to the C-USA Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team as well as the CoSIDA District 4 All-Academic Team alongside fellow senior Trista Magee.
