UAB Women’s Basketball Adds Valentina Monzó to Roster

BIRMNGHAM – UAB women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton has announced the signing of Valentina Monzo to the 2023-24 roster.
“We are excited to welcome Valentina to the UAB WBB family,” said Norton. “At 6-2, Valentina brings a unique skill set to our front court. Her versatility to stretch the defense with the 3-ball or play down low with her back to the basket puts her in a position to make an immediate impact next season. Defensively she has amazing timing and has the ability to be very disruptive in the paint.”

Monzó comes to UAB after playing the previous three seasons at McCook Community College in McCook, Nebraska. During her time with the Indians, she led them to 46 wins and three berths in the Region IX Playoffs.

She finished her career with 16 starts and averaged 12.1 points per 40 minutes. She shot 43.5% from the field, including a career-best 57.1% during the 2021-22 season. From 3-point range, she hit 40.9% of her attempts, and made 47.1% of her attempts during both the 20220-21 and 2021-22 seasons.

Internationally, Monzó was a member of the of the U16 Chilean team that played in the 2019 FIBA Women’s Americas Championship. She led the team to a 4-2 record and a third place finish after defeating Ecuador and Puerto Rico.

Currently, she is in training for the Chile Senior National Team.
