BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team concludes its two-game homestand on Jan. 7 when it hosts FIU. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
UAB LATELY
UAB (9-4, 1-3 C-USA) is coming off a 75-47 win over Florida Atlantic on Jan. 5. The Blazers are a perfect 6-0 at Bartow Arena this season.
FIU LATELY
FIU (7-5, 2-1 C-USA) has won three straight and five of its last seven, including a 71-63 victory at Charlotte on Jan. 5. The Panthers are 1-2 on the road this season.
UAB AND FIU HISTORY
The series began in 1981 in Coral Gables, Fla. which pitted the Blazers vs. the Sunblazers, FIU’s nickname until 1987. UAB won 110-38 – the 72 point margin of victory is still the largest in UAB program history. The teams played a pair of neutral site games in 1992, which was in the consolidation bracket of the NWIT and in 1994 along with a one-off in 2001 before the Panthers joined Conference USA in 2014. Overall, UAB leads the series 12-3, 9-2 in C-USA play.
LAST TIME AGAINST FIU
Zakyia Weathersby recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds and the duo of Margaret Whitley and Caitlynn Daniels each scored 11 points in UAB 65-56 victory over FIU on Jan. 13, 2022.
COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and FIU have nine common opponents this season, all Conference USA teams.

The Feb. 18 game vs. UTSA will now have a 1 p.m. tipoff time.
UAB TO THE AAC
American Athletic Conference officials announced that Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, UTSA, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC and compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The move will be official on July 1, 2023.
