UAB WBB Signs Jade Weathersby and Genevive Wedemeyer

BIRMINGHAM – UAB head women’s basketball coach Randy Norton has announced the signings of Jade Weathersby and Genevive Wedemeyer to National Letters of Intent.

“Both Gen and Jade have outstanding work ethics, people skills and have high-characters making them both a perfect fit for our program,” said Norton. “They are outstanding young ladies and we are so excited for both of them to join our family.”

Weathersby, no relation to former UAB great Zakyia Weathersby, is a 6-2 forward out of Aurora, Colo. and Brookwood High School (head coach Courtney Mincy). She is coming off a season where she averaged a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds per game at Parkview High School.

Additionally, Weathersby played AAU for FBC – The Family Supreme (coach Desmond Cambridge).

“Jade is extremely athletic with a motor that does not stop,” said Norton. “Her ability to run the floor is unmatched with other bigs. Defensively, her length, speed, agility and strength enables her to guard all positions, which makes her very unique.”

Wedemeyer, a native of Hamburg, Germany, currently plays at Putnam Science Academy in Putnam, Conn. (head coach Devin Hill). Last season, the 5-8 guard was a teammate of current Blazer Molly Moffitt where she averaged seven points and five rebounds. She also played for NY Gauchos (also with coach Hill).

In 2019, Wedemeyer represented Germany in the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in Skopje, North Macedonia. She led Germany to a 5-2 record and a ninth-place finish while averaging 3.5 points per contest.

“Gen is an incredible athlete with the ability to play all guard positions and can impact the game in a variety of ways,” said Norton. “She is a dynamic scorer and a threat from anywhere on the court as well as a lock down defender that creates havoc on defense.”
