BIRMINGHAM – Lyndsey Robson recorded her first career double-double and the duo of Denim DeShields and Margaret Whitley combined for 29 points in UAB’s 75-47 victory over Florida Atlantic on Thursday evening at Bartow Arena.
Robson finished with 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Whitley was one board shy of a double-double with 14 points, a career-high nine rebounds and a game-high six assists. DeShields scored a game-high 15 points and added five assists for the Blazers (9-4, 1-3 C-USA), who are a perfect 6-0 at home this season.
Jane Rozentale led FAU (9-3, 2-1 C-USA) with 11 points.
UAB led from wire-to-wire and took an 11-point lead at 20-9 on a Maddie Walsh layup with 1:45 remaining in the 1st quarter. The Blazers scored the final 13 points of the 2nd quarter to take a commanding 20-point lead going into halftime.at 40-20.
The lead would stay above 20 points for the final 18:20 of the contest. The Blazer advantage would swell to 28 points on 3-pointer by Desiree Ware which closed out the game’s scoring.
“Our kids came out on a mission tonight,” said head coach Randy Norton. “Marge and Lyndsey came out and set the tone while Denim set the tempo of the game. This was a great team win.”
A game after getting outrebounded by UTSA 18, the Blazers owned the boards tonight, 49-34 and scored 18 points off of 12 FAU turnovers.
Up next, the Blazers remain at home to take on FIU on Jan. 7.
