UAB WBB Hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff on Wednesday


BIRMINGHAM
 – The UAB women’s basketball team returns home to Bartow Arena on Wednesday to host Arkansas Pine Bluff. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
 
UAB LATELY
UAB (5­­-3) is coming off a 77-68 setback against Samford on Dec. 12. Zakyia Weathersby had 19 points and nine rebounds while Margaret Whitley added 16 points.
 
UAPB LATELY
UAPB (4-4) has its four-game winning streak snapped after a 78-65 loss at Miami on Dec. 6. Sade Hudson led the Lady Lions with 13 points.
 
UAB AND UAPB HISTORY 
UAB has dominated the series, winning all four games by an average of 33.3 points. Two of the Blazers’ best three defensive games have come against Pine Bluff – a school record of only 25 points allowed on Nov. 19, 2012 and the third-best total of 32 points allowed on Dec. 3, 2015. Those two games are the fifth and ninth largest margins of victory in program history as the Blazers won by 50 (82-32) and 46 (71-25).
 
LAST TIME AGAINST UAPB           
Five players scored in double figures in UAB’s 82-32 victory over UAPB. Keonna Farmer recorded a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds as did Brittany Winborne with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Current UAB director of operations Kara Rawls also recorded a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
 
UAB VS. SWAC         
The Blazers have had success against current teams from the Southwest Athletic Conference, sporting a 60-11 (.845) record.
 
COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and UAPB have three common opponents this season: Grambling State, Mississippi Valley State and Southern Miss.
 
NUMBER 1   
Weathersby leads the NCAA with 5.5 offensive rebounds per game. She ranks first in Conference USA in blocks (19), blocks per game (2.4), double-doubles (6), field goals made (61), rebounds (95), rebounds per game (11.9) and points per game (18.1).
 
EIGHT IS ENOUGH  
In Caitlynn’s Daniels career-high scoring day of 28 points against MVSU, she drained eight 3-pointers. This is the most in C-USA this season and tied for the sixth most in the NCAA this season.
