UAB Student-Athletes Continue to Excel Academically in Fall 2022 Semester

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Department of Athletics once again excelled in the classroom as Blazer student-athletes posted a 3.31 GPA for the Fall 2022 semester.

This marks 18 consecutive semesters that the department’s student-athletes have had over a 3.0 GPA. Overall, 16 of UAB’s 18 sports had a 3.0 GPA or higher during this past semester.

In total, 307 student-athletes (65%) earned a 3.00 GPA or above, 204 (43%) earned a 3.5 GPA or above and 89 (19%) earned a perfect 4.00 GPA. Twenty-seven student-athletes, representing 15 different majors, earned their degrees in December. Nine graduated with honors including one that graduated Summa Cum Laude. Additionally, four student-athletes earned their graduate degree.


“Another elite performance in the classroom by our Blazer student-athletes,” said Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services Antwan Joseph. “The effort and diligence they continue to display each semester is awesome to see. UAB Athletics, as well as the campus community, are proud of their accomplishments during the Fall 2022 semester.”

Individually, seven Blazers earned spots on Conference USA All-Academic teams – Matt Quinn and Sidney Wells from football, Alex Kells from volleyball, Laura Robinson from track & field along with Asha Zuniga, Carlyn Presley and Morgan Halliwill from women’s soccer.
