UAB Softball Sweeps UTSA With 12-0 Sunday Victory

SAN ANTONIO – The UAB softball team finished their sweep of UTSA with a run-rule five inning 12-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.  

Pitchers Amy Woodham and Emily Kachel allowed just three hits, giving UAB its fifth shutout of the season.  

Sierra Frazier and Analyse Petree each had a home run in the finale, finishing the series with three long balls a piece.  

UAB’s 16 hits were a season-high, while the Blazer batters combined for 12 RBIs. Ten different Blazers recorded a hit in the game. 

Frazier got things started early for UAB, hitting a two-run blast to left center and scoring Faith Hegh, giving the Blazers a 2-0 lead. 

After a scoreless second inning, Faith Hegh opened the third inning by drawing a walk. She was brought home with a two-run home run from Petree to right center and the Blazers held a 4-0 lead through three innings. 

UAB added to the lead in the fourth, scoring seven runs on seven hits, going up 11-0. 

Taylor Watford plated Sadie Frazier with a single down the right field line in the top of the fifth for the last UAB run of the day. 

Petree finished the game with a team-high four RBIs, in addition to two-runs and two hits.  

Woodham (6-8) earned her second victory of the weekend, allowing just one hit in three innings. Kachel entered the game in the fourth inning, allowing no runs and giving up just two hits in relief to finish off the game. 

UAB will be back in action on the road Wednesday at 6 p.m. against hometown rival Samford.
