UAB Men’s Soccer Set for Saturday Matchup at No. 4 Kentucky

BIRMINGHAM- The UAB men’s soccer team prepares to face their third top-five opponent in less than two weeks on the road when they square off against No. 4 Kentucky.

In a very physical match, UAB (1-5-0) came up short to Georgia State for a second time this season 4-1. The Blazers fell behind early as the Panthers scored within 52 seconds into the game off of a misplayed ball. Georgia State did not let up as they went on to score three consecutive goals before UAB’s Mason Robicheaux found the back of the net in the 83rd minute. Teodor Thorvaldsen and Krenar Krasniqi each tallied shots on goal.

Kentucky (5-1-0) comes in on a four game winning streak including a 3-1 win over Mercer

on Wednesday night. Senior Bailey Rouse and Kalil Elmedkhar and junior Daniel Evans scored one goal each to contribute to the score.

“So far this season we have played the No. 1, No. 2, and now with Kentucky the No. 3 team in the country all on the road”, said head coach Jeff Kinney. “We are asking a lot out of our young group. However, it is matches like this that will help us build to where we want to be.”

Kentucky leads the all-time series with UAB 10-6. The last meeting was Nov. 8 in Lexington when the Wildcats won 2-0. Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and wear masks for the safety of those around them.
