UAB Men’s Soccer Set for Monday Matchup at Clemson

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men’s soccer team prepares for its first of two consecutive ACC matchups when the Blazers travel to South Carolina to take on Clemson on Monday night.

After scoring five goals in the first two games of the season, UAB (1-2) was blanked by Georgia State last Wednesday in Atlanta. The Blazers fell behind early as the Panthers scored in the first 10 minutes of the match and did not let up scoring two goals in the first half and two in the second.

Clemson (1-0) has only played one game so far in 2020, a 3-0 victory over in-state rival South Carolina. The Tigers tallied 26 shots in the match with 12 shots on goal. Sophomore Mohamed Seye’s brace helped lead the Tigers over the Gamecocks.

Clemson was selected as the preseason favorite to win the ACC this season after posting an 18-2-2 record in 2019 and claiming the regular season title with a 6-1-1 ACC record. The Tigers were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament by Stanford on penalty kicks.

“Clemson is arguably one of the best teams in the country,” said head coach Jeff Kinney. “We have an extremely difficult task ahead of us, but we schedule these games knowing that. These games are crucial for our development as we build to get to where we want to be as a team and a program. We are looking forward to what will most definitely be a challenge.”

The Blazers hold a one game advantage in the all-time series with Clemson, leading two games to one. UAB won the most recent matchup against the Tigers, a 2-0 decision at Clemson in 2012.
