BIRMINGHAM– UAB men’s soccer head coach Jeff Kinney has released the team’s spring 2021 schedule. The nine-game slate feature seven Conference USA matches and four matches at BBVA Field.
“We always want to test ourselves with a challenging schedule,” said Kinney. “Our goal is to play an out of conference schedule that will prepare us to compete for a conference championship. I think we’ve succeeded in doing that once more. We are excited to be able to compete once again.”
Lipscomb
UAB travels to Nashville, Tenn. to face Lipscomb in an exhibition match on Jan. 30. The Bisons went 5-9-2 in 2019 including a 1-1 tie in double overtime to UAB at BBVA Field. The Blazers lead the series 4-1-2.
Montevallo
The Blazers welcome Montevallo to BBVA Field on Feb. 6 for a home exhibition match. The Falcons finished the 2019 season 6-9-2 including a 3-2 win against North Georgia and a 2-0 win against West Alabama.
Central Arkansas
UAB officially kicks off the 2021 season at BBVA Field against Central Arkansas on Feb. 16. The Bears finished their 2020 Fall season 3-5-1 including a 3-2 loss to UAB. The Blazers lead the series 3-0.
NC State
UAB travels to Raleigh, N.C. to matchup against NC State on Feb. 20. The Wolfpack finished the 2020 Fall season 0-6-1 including a 0-0 tie against then-ranked #5 North Carolina. This is the first meeting between the Blazers and Wolfpack since Sept. 10, 1995. The series is tied 1-1.
Old Dominion
The Blazers return home to start their Conference USA schedule against Old Dominion on March 6. In 2019, the Monarchs finished 3-11-1 including 2-1 victory over South Carolina on the road. UAB’s last matchup with Old Dominion resulted in a 1-1 tie in Norfolk, Va. The Monarchs lead the series 5-0-2.
Charlotte
UAB faces a second North Carolina opponent when they square off at Charlotte on March 13. The 49ers ranked as high as No. 5 during the 2019 season. Charlotte finished 12-4-4 including being runner-up to Marshall in the Conference USA Championships and making the NCAA tournament before falling 2-1 to No. 3 Clemson in the second round. Charlotte leads the series 22-9-5.
FIU
The Blazers travel to the Sunshine State to face FIU on March 20. FIU was ranked as high as #11 in 2019. The Panthers advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA tournament beforefalling to Charlotte, 1-0 to finish 10-3-5. The series is tied at 7-7-1.
Kentucky
UAB returns home to host Kentucky on March 27. The Wildcats went 5-1 in their 2020 Fall season and ranked as high as No. 3. Kentucky leads the series 11-6.
South Carolina
UAB travels to Columbia, S.C. on April 3. The Gamecocks went 3-2 in their 2020 Fall season. The Blazers won 1-0 at BBVA Field against South Carolina in their last matchup in 2019. South Carolina leads the series 11-6-1.
Marshall
The Blazers return for their home season finale against the defending Conference USA tournament champion, Marshall. The Thundering Herd finished the 2019 season 16-3-3. UAB leads the series 10-5-2.
FAU
UAB finishes the season on the road against Florida Atlantic. The Owls finished the 2019 season with a 7-8-1 record with notable wins against then-ranked No. 17 James Madison (1-0) and then-ranked No. 15 Marshall (1-0). Florida Atlantic made it to the quarterfinals of the 2019 Conference USA tournament. UAB leads the series 5-2.
