UAB Men’s Soccer New Player Profiles: Gee, Price and Flathau

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men’s soccer team picked up plenty of new talent in the offseason, signing several new players to the squad for the 2020 season. This week UABSports.com will profile these newcomers with today featuring Dillon Gee, Tyrell Price and Heath Flathau.

Dillon Gee, Fr., Fayetteville, Ga.

Gee comes to Birmingham from Whitewater High School in Fayetteville, Ga. As a member of the Gwinnett Soccer Academy, Gee won the 2019-20 Southeast ECNL Championship alongside incoming freshman Owen Travis. The 5-11 defender was also a part of GSA’s 2018-19 ECNL Runner Up Squad and a 2019 National finalist.

Coach Kinney on Gee:

“Dillon’s ability to attack from the left back position is what caught our eye during the recruiting process. He brings pace and understanding to a back line we continue to improve.”

Tyrell Price, Fr., Clanton, Ala.

Price joins the Blazers after a record-breaking high school career at Chilton County in Clanton, Ala. Price holds the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) record for goals in a game when he scored nine against Thomasville. He ranks second in AHSAA history in goals scored in a single season with 67 in 2019. The 6-1 forward was named First Team All-State as a senior and was on the A/B Honor Roll in 2018-19 and 2019-20. Price was born and raised in Germany before moving to Alabama in 2018.

Coach Kinney on Price:

“Tyrell’s pace is what makes him stand out. He gives us the ability to stretch teams more than what we’ve been able to do in the past.”

Heath Flathau, Fr., Hattiesburg, Miss.

Flathau enters his first season at UAB after being named Mississippi State Gatorade Player of the Year in 2020. He is the second player of the year from Mississippi on the Blazers’ squad joining Sumner Richardson who claimed the award in 2016-17. Flathau earned the honors after scoring 20 goals and tallying 12 assists for Sacred Heart Catholic School en route to a Class 1A/2A/3A state championship. He was named District MVP, Clarion-Ledger First Team All-State and Pine Belt Sports Player of the Year as a senior.

Coach Kinney on Flathau:

“Heath is just an all-around good soccer player. He is capable of playing in a number of spots for us, but his work rate is what separates him from most other players.”
