UAB Men’s Soccer New Player Profiles: Dimbo, Whitehead, Lee 

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men’s soccer team picked up plenty of new talent in the offseason, signing several new players to the squad for the 2020 season. UABSports.com wraps up these new player profiles with today featuring Mekhi Dimbo, Caelan Whitehead and Sam Lee, with comments from goalkeeper’s coach Joel Wallace. 

Mekhi Dimbo, Fr., Alabaster, Ala. 

Dimbo comes to Birmingham from nearby Alabaster, Ala. where he played prep soccer at Thompson High School. The 6-0 goalkeeper was named to the All-State, All-Metro and All-Region teams. He is a four-time club soccer state champion and three-time Southeastern Clubs Champion League (SCCL) winner. 

Coach Wallace on Dimbo: 

“MJ (Mekhi) was a late add to our team. I saw MJ play some time ago and thought he was very athletic. MJ will also bring some good experience, playing for one of the better schools in the area, Thompson High School.” 

Caelan Whitehead, Fr., Alpharetta, Ga. 

Whitehead enters his first season at UAB as a goalkeeper at Denmark High School in Alpharetta, Ga. While playing for the Danes, he was named Second Team All-County. He played soccer at the developmental academy level for three years as a goalkeeper.  

Coach Wallace on Whitehead: 

“We are excited to have Caelan join our team. He is a very technical goalkeeper and has played at a high level. Caelan came through one of our ID camps and he impressed me right away. I look forward to seeing him develop and help our team win some games.” 

Sam Lee, Fr., Madison, Ala. 

Lee joins the 2020 Blazers squad Madison, Ala. where he was a goalkeeper at Staples High School. During his four seasons of academy soccer he was the starting goalkeeper for Beachside Academy and was a standout at Top Drawer Soccer’s Florida Developmental Academy showcase.  

Coach Wallace on Lee: 

“Sam was another a late add to the team. He comes to us from Barca Academy. Playing for a very competitive academy, Sam brings that professionalism to the field. He is very technical and competes on every level. We look forward to seeing him in goal.”
