UAB Men’s Soccer Hosts Georgia State for Home Opener

BIRMINGHAM– The UAB men’s soccer team hosts Georgia State for the second time in less than two weeks on Tuesday night.  

The UAB (1-4) defense faced a difficult task against No. 1 Wake Forest on Saturday night. The Demon Deacons fired off 22 shots in which 13 shots were on goal to defeat the Blazers 3-0.  

Freshman Caelan Whitehead had a career-high nine saves with seniors Joseph Buete and Aodhan O’Hara contributing with one shot on goal each.  

Georgia State (5-1) are off to a great start for their season. In their first six games, the Panthers won five straight before losing 1-0 to Coastal Carolina in a nail-bitter in their last game.  

In their last match against UAB, Georgia State had eight shots on goal that resulted in four goals. Juniors Matthew Fearnley and Logan Luque and sophomores Justin Guest and Max Wilkins contributed to the scoring. 

UAB and Georgia State have met 24 times with Georgia State leading the series 14-9 with one tie. The last meeting was on Sept. 30 when the Panthers won 4-0 in Atlanta. Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and wear masks for the safety of those around them.
