UAB Men’s Soccer Drops Close Match to No. 12 Marshall 1-0 on Senior Day

BIRMINGHAM –Marshall’s Jamil Roberts scored in the 38th minute in the first half to give the Thundering Herd a 1-0 victory over UAB on Senior Day at BBVA Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers fall to 3-11-1 overall, 1-4-1 in Conference USA play while Marshall improves to 8-2-2, 5-0-1 C-USA.

UAB came out with stifling defense and maintained that game plan throughout the match. Marshall, who is ranked first nationally in shots on goal per game with eight, was held to only four shots against the pressure of the UAB defense.

The Blazers had their best opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Nathaniel St. Louis fired a shot, but it was a little too high. In the 38th minute, Roberts found the back of the net right before halftime to put the Thundering Herd up 1-0. This would be the first and last goal of the game as both teams went scoreless in the second half

The Blazers will be on the road for their spring season finale against Florida Atlantic on April 17 at 12 p.m.
