UAB Men’s Basketball Hosts Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – Coming off an impressive 99-50 victory in Andy Kennedy‘s debut as UAB head coach on Wednesday, the Blazers will take to the Bartow Arena floor on Saturday afternoon to host Southeastern Louisiana. Tipoff is a 2 p.m.
 
UAB AND SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA SERIES
This marks the first time that the Blazers and Lions have met.
 
QUICK ALCORN STATE RECAP
Five players scored in double-figures with Jalen Benjamin leading all scorers with 21 points. Kassim Nicholson scored a career-high 16 points, Quan Jackson was one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Michael Ertel and Tyreek Scott-Grayson each added 10 points for the Blazers.
 
SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA LATELY
The Lions (0-1) fell at Purdue Fort Wayne, 67-63, in overtime Wednesday. Nick Caldwell scored a career-high 20 points for SLU who was 1-for-28 from 3-point range.
 
COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and SLU have one common opponent this season – Louisiana Tech.

The Blazers are a perfect 20-0 against the Southland Conference. The record reflects games against team that were in the Southland Conference at the time of competition.
 
UAB AGAINST LOUISIANA SCHOOLS
The Blazers have had success against schools from the Bayou State, going 52-27 all-time.
 
AK BATTING .923 IN SEASON-OPENERS
With the 99-50 victory over Alcorn State on Nov. 25, Kennedy is 13-1 in his season-opening contests. The only setback was at the beginning of the 2014-15 season when Ole Miss fell to eventual Big South champions Charleston Southern. However, the Rebels earned an NCAA berth and advanced into the second round.
 
AK VS. THE SOUTHLAND
Kennedy is a perfect 12-0 against team from the Southland including a 1-0 record against Southeastern Louisiana. The record reflects games against team that were in the Southland Conference at the time of competition.
 
WINNING BIG
UAB’s 49 point victory over Alcorn State in the season-opener was the Blazers’ largest margin of victory over a Division-I school since Coach Bartow’s final season. On Nov. 30, 1995, UAB defeated Prairie View by 53 points, 105-52. It is also the largest margin of victory against a D-I squad in a UAB head coach debut. Additionally, the 99 points is the most scored against a D-I team in a Blazers head coach inaugral contest.

Blazer men’s basketball games are set to air on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 with David Crane and Murry Bartow on the call.

In addition, David Crane will host Blazer Sportsline every Tuesday during Conference USA play. The show will take place live from Iron City Grill in downtown Birmingham and feature men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy and women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton.

The nine-episode show, which will air from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., begins Jan. 5. Blazer Sportsline can be heard on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 and fans will be encouraged to tweet questions to @BlazersLIMGC.

MEN’S BASKETBALL TICKET INFORMATION 
In compliance with CDC and state and local public health guidance, UAB adjusted the seating manifest to adhere to social distancing at Bartow Arena for the 2020-21 season. UAB reallocated season ticket holders who had completed their purchase of season tickets through October 19 and placed season ticket holders based on Blazer Boosters Priority Points and the price type of tickets purchased. As a reminder, original season ticket locations prior to the social distancing reallocation will be utilized for 2021-22 renewals or if capacity restrictions change during the 2020-21 season. 

A limited number of 2020-21 season tickets remain in the upper level. Fans interested in season tickets can fill out the season ticket request form or contact the UAB Ticket Office at 205-975-8221.
 
Due to social distancing guidelines, men’s basketball single game tickets and walk up sales will not be available to the public for the 2020-21 season. Season tickets are the only way to secure a seat at Bartow Arena.
