UAB Men’s Basketball Begins Final Homestand Against Old Dominion

BIRMINGHAM – UAB (16-4, 9-3 C-USA) begins its final homestand of the season Feb. 19-20 against Old Dominion (11-5, 7-3 C-USA). Friday’s game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday’s contest will start at 3 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on Stadium.

SALUTE TO SERVICE
UAB has partnered with the Alabama Fallen Warriors Project to honor the service men and women from the state of Alabama who made the ultimate sacrifice since Sept. 11, 2001.

Each Fallen Warrior will have a silhouette cut out at Friday evening’s game and be set up in a special section of Bartow Arena. The veteran cutouts represent men and women from all 67 Alabama counties who have died as part of the United States Armed Forces.

SENIOR SATURDAY
UAB will honor a pair of seniors on Saturday. Tyreek Scott-Grayson and Kassim Nicholson will be recognized prior to tipoff in a pregame ceremony. 

UAB LATELY
The Blazers are coming off a pair of setbacks in Ruston against Louisiana Tech last weekend. However, they are still off to the one of the best starts in program history. Only the 2009-10 (18-2) and 1993-94 (17-3) teams have had a better starts through the first 20 games. This year’s team is the sixth in program history to begin 16-4.

ODU LATELY
The Monarchs have won nine of their last 12 games including a sweep of Charlotte last weekend. Malik Curry is the team’s leading scorer averaging 15.5 points per game.

UAB AND ODU HISTORY    
UAB and Old Dominion began their series on Jan. 20, 1983 at the BJCC when the teams were members of the Sun Belt Conference. They have met a total of 36 times – in five cities and seven different venues – with the Blazers holding a 22-14 advantage. The teams have played every season since 2013-14 when ODU joined C-USA after spending the previous 23 seasons in the Colonial Athletic Association.

COMMON OPPONENTS
UAB and ODU have four common opponents this season: Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, and Rice.

DID YOU KNOW?
Blazers head coach Andy Kennedy played eight career games against Old Dominion, going 5-3. He averaged 19.0 points per game and had four 20+ point games. His best effort was 28 points on Feb. 7, 1991 in Norfolk followed by scoring 27 four days later back in Birmingham. 

D-ING UP
In addition to being fourth in the nation in scoring defense (59.0), the Blazers are sixth in turnover margin (5.7), 17th in FG% defense (39.4) and 19th in scoring margin (+13.4).

UP NEXT

RADIO
Blazer men’s basketball games are set to air on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 with David Crane and Murry Bartow on the call.

In addition, Crane will host Blazer Sportsline every Tuesday during Conference USA play. The show takes place live from Iron City Grill in downtown Birmingham and features men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy and women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton.

The nine-episode show, airs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Blazer Sportsline can be heard on 100.5 ESPN JOX 2 and fans will be encouraged to tweet questions to @BlazersLIMGC.

MEN’S BASKETBALL TICKET INFORMATION 
In compliance with CDC and state and local public health guidance, UAB adjusted the seating manifest to adhere to social distancing at Bartow Arena for the 2020-21 season. UAB reallocated season ticket holders who had completed their purchase of season tickets through October 19 and placed season ticket holders based on Blazer Boosters Priority Points and the price type of tickets purchased. As a reminder, original season ticket locations prior to the social distancing reallocation will be utilized for 2021-22 renewals or if capacity restrictions change during the 2020-21 season. 

Due to social distancing guidelines, men’s basketball single game tickets and walk up sales are not be available to the public for the 2020-21 season.

Fans interested in season tickets are encouraged to fill out the season ticket request form or contact the UAB Ticket Office at (205) 975-UAB1. A member of the UAB Athletics Sales and Service team will be in touch if capacity restrictions are lifted or when 2021-22 season tickets become available.
