UAB MBB Opponent Preview: Alcorn State/Southeastern Louisiana

BIRMINGHAM – The 2020-21 season commences when UAB tips off the season by welcoming Alcorn State to Bartow Arena on Nov. 25. Three days later, the Blazers host Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 28.
 
UABSports.com will preview each of UAB’s 18 opponents for the upcoming season, with today featuring Alcorn State and Southeastern Louisiana.
 
ALCORN STATE QUICK FACTS:
Location: Lorman, Miss.

THE SERIES:
The teams have met seven times in a series that began on Nov. 28, 1989, with UAB winning all seven meetings. The Blazers average 87 points per game against the Braves with a margin of victory of 27.2 points. UAB has reached the century mark three times in the series. The last game between the two teams was Dec. 18, 2018 – a 76-49 UAB victory.  
 
ALCORN STATE AT A GLANCE:
Alcorn State has a different look from last season’s team that finished tied for fourth placed in the SWAC. New head coach Landon Bussie added eight transfers and a pair of freshman to the roster. The Braves return an All-Conference selection Troymain Crosby who led the team with 15.1 points per game in SWAC contests.
 
DID YOU KNOW?
The Blazers faced off against current Alcorn State guard Ross Jacoby last season when he played for Alabama State. UAB held him to 0-for-7 shooting.

THE SERIES:
Nov. 28 will mark the first time the Blazers and Lions have met.

SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA AT A GLANCE:
The Lions return three starters from last year’s team, including second leading scorer Pape Diop (11.0 ppg). They have seven newcomers which include six transfers. Leading scorer and rebounder Ty Brewer transferred to East Tennessee State.

DID YOU KNOW?
Elijah Ifejeh, who transferred to Southeastern Louisiana in June, was a teammate of Blazers guard Michael Ertel last season at ULM.


All UAB men’s basketball season ticket holders who completed their purchase by October 19 were able to be accommodated within the social distancing reallocation for the 2020-21 season. A limited number of season tickets remain in the upper level and can be purchased on a first come, first served basis. A member of the UAB Athletics Ticket Sales and Service team will follow up with you regarding available seating options.

As a reminder, original season ticket locations from the men’s basketball priority seat allocation will be utilized for 2021-22 renewals or if capacity restrictions change during the 2020-21 season.
