UAB Hosts Marshall on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team wraps up its three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when its takes on Marshall. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
 
UAB LATELY
Emily Klaczek recorded a career-high 26 points in UAB’s 86-70 victory over WKU on Thursday night. The win was the Lady Toppers’ first loss in Conference USA this season and ended their nine-game winning streak. The Blazers improved to 11-6, 4-2 C-USA.
 
MARSHALL LATELY
Marshall (11-6, 6-2 C-USA) is coming off a 39-point loss at Middle Tennessee 80-41 on Thursday night.
 
UAB AND MARSHALL HISTORY   
UAB holds a slight 15-14 edge in a series that begun in 1995. Marshall leads 13-12 in C-USA regular season games and the Blazers winning two of the three games in the conference championship. UAB leads 6-5 at Bartow Arena.
 
LAST TIME AGAINST MARSHALL
Angela Vendrell’s 3-pointer with 6:14 remining in the game tied the score at 44-44, but Marshall would take the lead for the remainder of the contest two possessions later. The Blazers got within two points twice inside the final minute, but it was the Thundering Herd that came out on top 61-56 on Jan. 11, 2020 in Huntington.

Zakyia Weathersby is sixth in the NCAA with 13 double-doubles, fourth with 11.9 rebounds per game and sixth with 4.5 offensive rebounds per game. She ranks first in Conference USA in blocks (31), shooting percentage (56.5%), and rebounds (202) She’s second in the league in field goals made (108) and blocks per game (1.8)

Both Weathersby (Chicago State/Chattanooga) and Caitlynn Daniels (Mississippi Valley State) each have a 28-point game under their belts this year.
 
WORLD CLASS KLACZEK
Klaczek set a career-high with 26 points in UAB’s 86-70 win over WKU on Jan. 27. She scored 16 points in the 2nd quarter, going 5-for-5 from the field, 4-of-4 from 3-point range and a pair of foul shots.
 
EIGHT IS ENOUGH  
In Daniels career day against MVSU, she drained eight 3-pointers. This is the most in C-USA this season and tied for the 10th most in the NCAA this season.
