RUSTON, La. – UAB’s six game winning streak ended Friday night after a 70-58 loss at Louisiana Tech.

The Blazers (16-3, 9-2 C-USA) were led by Tavin Lovan with 11 points and Michael Ertel who scored 10. Trey Jemison grabbed eight rebounds for UAB.

Reigning C-USA Rookie of the Week Kenneth Lofton, Jr. recorded a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs (16-6, 9-4 C-USA). Cobe Williams added 15 points for LA Tech, who improves to 11-1 at home.

The 1st half had four ties and four lead changes. Tyreek Scott-Grayson scored the first nine points for UAB followed by a Jalen Benjamin 3-pointer, making the score 12-7 and giving the Blazers their largest lead of the half at the 13:24 mark.

Tech followed with an 11-2 run, putting them ahead 18-14 at the midway point of the half. A pair of Williams free throws and a Lofton layup inside of the final minute gave the Bulldogs an 11-point lead heading into halftime, 40-29.

UAB cut the lead to five points after Ertel scored five straight in 29 seconds to shrink the Tech lead to 48-43 with 13:30 left in the 2nd half. However, the Bulldogs made it a double-figure lead once again after an and-1 by Lofton made the score 56-44 at the 10:25 mark.

“We knew from a challenge standpoint coming into tonight that we had to play good, be locked in and connected. And we didn’t do that,” said head coach Andy Kennedy. “The reality is we are 16-3 and 9-2 and in control of our own destiny. We got to dust ourselves off and play better. And if we play better, we’ll have an opportunity tomorrow.”

The Blazers and Bulldogs return to the court tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. tip. The game will air on Stadium.
