UAB Faces WKU in C-USA Quarterfinals


BIRMINGHAM
 – The UAB women’s soccer team begins the quest for its third Conference USA title when it takes on WKU Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the C-USA Championship. The Blazers and Lady Toppers kickoff at 3:30 p.m. (CT)/4:30 (ET) at FAU Soccer Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
 
UAB LATELY
UAB (6-8-3, 4-3-1 C-USA) is the No. 3 seed in the West. The Blazers finished tied for second place with Rice with 10 points, but did not own the tie breaker.
 
WKU LATELY
The Lady Toppers (10-4-1, 5-2-1 C-USA) are the No. 2 seed in the East. WKU finished in second place outright with 16 points.
 
THE SERIES VS. WKU
The teams have met eight times dating back to 2014. The Blazers and Lady Toppers met in the quarterfinals of last year’s championship with WKU taking the match 1-0. Earlier this season, the Lady Toppers defeated the Blazers on a goal from Briana Sayoc in the 108th minute at BBVA Field. WKU leads the series 5-2-1
 
COMMON OPPONENTS      
The teams have four common opponents this season – Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, Rice, and UTEP.
 
UP NEXT
The winner of Wednesday’s match will face the winner of Southern Miss/Florida Atlantic on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
 
UAB C-USA USA CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY       
The Blazers have won a pair of Conference USA Championships, taking home the crown in 2004 and 2006. This will mark UAB’s 17th appearance in the Conference USA Championship. Overall, in 24 matches, UAB is 6-12-6. In the six ties, the Blazers have won four of those on PKs.
 
FIVE BLAZERS NAMED C-USA ALL-CONFERENCE
Stella KissLexxe LipseyKendall PageLaura Zemberyova and Asha Zuniga have been named to Conference USA All-Conference Teams, the league office announced on Nov. 1. Lipsey and Zemberyova were named to the Second Team. Kiss and Zuniga were named to the Third Team while Page was named to the All-Freshman Team.
 
SCHOLARS AND BALLERS 
Kiss, Audria Wood and Lipsey were all named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league announced Oct.29. Kiss and Wood were named to the First Team, while Lipsey was named to the Second Team.
