UAB Athletics Completes Men’s Basketball Social Distancing Reallocation

The UAB Department of Athletics has completed the social distancing reallocation leading into the upcoming basketball season. In compliance with CDC and state and local public health guidance, UAB adjusted the seating manifest to adhere to social distancing at Bartow Arena for the 2020-21 season. Season ticket holders, UAB students and student-athlete guests had top priority as seats were adjusted.

UAB reallocated season ticket holders who had completed their purchase of season tickets through October 19 and placed season ticket holders based on Blazer Boosters Priority Points and the price type of tickets purchased. The Bartow Arena adjusted seating model includes more than six feet of space between each customer’s account, along with an open row between each row that has seats allocated.

Conference USA recently adopted its COVID-19 game operations guidelines for the 2020-21 basketball season, and as a result, all patron courtside seating has been eliminated.

Blazer Boosters and the UAB Athletics Ticket Office began reallocating those displaced ticket holders into Row D of sideline seating, which is the first available row according to the guidelines. The reallocation continued for Champion Club members based on Blazer Boosters Priority Points and seat preferences. UAB Athletics progressed through the priority list by price type and concluded with Blaze’s Corner seating which is the most affordable seating option in the upper level. As ticket holders were reallocated, each patron’s account was able to have up-to-six seats allocated together followed by skipping enough seats to equate to at least six feet of space to adhere to social distancing measures between each account.

“We are eager to tip off the season and are incredibly grateful to our season ticket holders for your unwavering support as we prepare to safely accommodate you this season” head coach Andy Kennedy said. “While this season will certainly look different, our team is working daily to put themselves in position to compete for the C-USA Championship.”

Season ticket holders will be notified of their adjusted seat locations starting on Thursday, Nov. 5, and will be sent their 2020-21 season tickets electronically the week of Nov. 9. UAB Athletics will also be distributing season parking passes and information about mobile ticketing next week leading into the November 25 season opener against Alcorn State.

All UAB men’s basketball season ticket holders who completed their purchase by October 19 were able to be accommodated within the social distancing reallocation for the 2020-21 season. A limited number of season tickets remain in the upper level and can be purchased on a first come, first served basis. For those interested in season tickets, please fill out the season ticket request form or contact the UAB Ticket Office at 205-975-8221. A member of the UAB Athletics Ticket Sales and Service team will follow up with you regarding available seating options.

As a reminder, original season ticket locations from the men’s basketball priority seat allocation will be utilized for 2021-22 renewals or if capacity restrictions change during the 2020-21 season.
