UAB Adds Avery Batson to 2020 Roster

BIRMINGHAM –UAB women’s soccer head coach Erica Demers announced the addition of Avery Batson to the 2020 roster.

Batson played her freshman season at Auburn in 2016, participating in 23 matches with 12 starts. She helped the Tigers to a school record 17 victories and advance to the SEC semifinals and a berth in the NCAA tournament before falling to eventual champion USC in the quarterfinal round.

Batson helped anchor a back line that recorded seven shutouts and had a goals against average of 1.08. Additionally, she set up the game-winning goal in the Tigers’ victory against Georgia.

Batson will be in UAB’s physical therapy program.

“Avery will bring experience and instant maturity to our team,” said Demers. “She is excited about a fresh start and to have the opportunity to get back on the field again for her last season. Her personality is infectious and I know she will adapt immediately to our program. Welcome Avery!”

She joins a group of nine newcomers – Kristen Goodroe, Erika Manfre, Izzy Passman, Faith Phillips, Megan Richardson, Haley Skupa, Anika Toth, Melina West and Jessica Wheeler – that will be on next year’s roster.
