Tulsa’s Cassaday, SMU’s Cullen Earn Academic All-America Honors

IRVING, Texas – Two American Athletic Conference volleyball players were named to the 2023 Volleyball Academic All-America Teams as chosen by the College Sports Communications (CSC). Tulsa’s Kayley Cassaday was named to the First Team, while SMU’s Celia Cullen earned a Third Team selection.

Cassaday earned a First Team nod, her second All-America selection after being on the Second Team a season ago. Cassaday was third in the nation in kills per set (5.14), fourth in the nation in points per set (5.54) and second in the nation in attacks per set (14.28). Cassaday boasts a 4.00 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering.

Cullen facilitated the SMU offense to a tune of 10.59 assists per set – the top mark in The American and the 19th best in the NCAA. She finished the season with 1,207 total assists, while helping lead the Mustangs to the top hitting percentage in The American (.257). Cullen was named the American Athletic Conference Setter of the Year. She holds a 4.00 GPA while majoring in Sport Management.

The Division I team boasted a 3.88 cumulative GPA.
