GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A sweep of event titles in the nation’s top meet of the weekend earns Gator senior Trinity Thomas her first 2022 Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week honor.
Today’s recognition extends Thomas’ league record of SEC Gymnast of the Week honors to 16 for her career. She collected three SEC Specialist Gymnast of the Week earlier this season. Three different Gators picked up SEC Gymnast of the Week honors in 2022 – Sloane Blakely (Week 1), Leanne Wong (Week 6) and Thomas (Week 8).
Other Week 8 recipients are Lexi Graber, Alabama and Haleigh Bryant, LSU (Co-Specialists of the Week) and Sunisa Lee, Auburn (Freshman of the Week).
Trinity Thomas – SEC Specialist of the Week:
* Won at least a share of every event title in the nation’s top meet of the weekend (No. 2 Oklahoma/197.75 at No. 3 Florida/198.10). Second event sweep of career (also at LSU in 2021). No. 2 all-time for UF with 94 event wins (one away from Bridget Sloan’s record).
* 39.85 all-around is nation’s leader for 2022. Total is No. 2 all-time for UF (behind her 39.90 at LSU in 2021). Third all-around title of 2022 and now No. 4 on UF career chart with 21 all-around wins.
* 10.0 was sixth of career for floor exercise. Leads nation with five 10.0s this season (three floor, one vault & beam).
* Near perfect 9.975 won balance beam. Shared vault (9.925) and uneven bars wins (9.95)
* Leads Florida with 20 event titles in 2022

Friday’s Scenarios:
* Florida clinched at least a share of its fourth consecutive SEC regular-season title with a current 6-0 league record. A win Friday give UF’s its third consecutive unbeaten SEC regular record.
* After its home win Friday over Kentucky (197.925-197.15), Auburn upped its league record to 5-1. Auburn would share the 2022 SEC regular-season title with a win over the Gators. It would be the first shared title since the league began recognizing the regular-season champions in 2017.
