Efrin Castro and Vernon McClure Carry TPC Racing’s Porsche Banner, While Tom Kerr Shifts His Focus to Lamborghini Super Trofeo
DANVILLE, Virginia (August 20, 2020) – TPC Racing heads to VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) this weekend, not only for their traditional appearance in IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, but with a brand new car ready for an IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo debut. Drivers Vernon McClure and Efrin Castro return for the weekend in Porsche Cup action, while TPC Racing stalwart Tom Kerr is making the jump to the LB Cup class of Lamborghini Super Trofeo as TPC Racing expands its offering and involvement in IMSA programs. This weekend’s event at VIR features a pair of 45-minute races for IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup and a pair of 50-minute races for Lamborghini Super Trofeo. TPC Racing’s Porsche contingent will race at 5:10 p.m. ET on Saturday and 11:45 a.m. ET on Sunday. Kerr and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo field will race on Saturday at 11:50 a.m. ET and at 12:55 p.m. on Sunday. Each race will be streamed live at IMSA.tv. McClure returns to the No. 10 Main Street Homes Porsche 911 GT3 this weekend following a fourth-place finish in Platinum Cup Masters during Sunday’s race at Road America. Sunday’s race boosted the weekend for McClure, who erased a poor finish on Saturday stemming from early-race contact. He enters the weekend seventh in Platinum Cup Masters points and is poised to climb the standings at VIR. McClure earned his first ever podium finish at VIR, the closest track on the calendar to his hometown of Chesterfield, Virginia, in 2019.
Castro scored his first-career Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA Gold Cup win in the No. 65 Fine Fare Supermarkets Porsche 911 GT3 on Saturday at Road America in his TPC Racing debut. Castro followed that up with a fourth-place finish on Sunday and sits second in the 2020 points entering the VIR weekend. Castro also scored a podium finish in 2019 at VIR, finishing third in his class. VIR marks the debut of TPC Racing’s newest outing when Tom Kerr moves from Porsche Cup to Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Kerr has been alongside TPC Racing as the Porsche Cup program has grown and is now an integral part in the team’s foray to the Lamborghini program. Kerr plans to run the remainder of the 2020 campaign in the LB Cup class. Kerr will drive the No. 74 Lamborghini Sterling/The Vein & Vascular Institute of Tampa Bay Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO during the 2020 season.
The weekend gets underway at VIR on Friday with two practice sessions each for Porsche GT3 Cup and Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Both series will qualify on Saturday morning. The first race of the weekend for Lamborghini Super Trofeo is a 50-minute battle at 11:50 a.m. ET, while Porsche GT3 Cup races for 45-minutes at 5:10 p.m. ET. Sunday includes the final pair of races, at 11:45 a.m. ET for Porsche Cup, followed immediately at 12:55 p.m. ET with Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Each race is streamed live on IMSA.tv.
