TORTUGAS AND HAMMERHEADS SUSPENDED ON SATURDAY

Game will resume at 2:30 on Sunday with Jupiter leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth; 7-inning game two to follow

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions, Saturday evening’s contest between the Daytona Tortugas and Jupiter Hammerheads at Jackie Robinson Ballpark has been suspended.

As a result, the contest will be picked up as a part of a doubleheader on Sunday, August 15, with the first pitch of the resumption slated for 2:30 p.m. Sunday’s game resumption will complete its originally scheduled nine innings.

The gates are slated to open at 1:30 p.m., one hour before the first pitch. Fans with tickets to Saturday’s suspended game may redeem them at the Tortugas’ box office for any ticket to a Tortugas home game throughout the remainder of the 2021 regular season of equal or lesser value. Patrons may also redeem their tickets by calling the ‘Tugas at (386) 257-3172.

Jupiter (42-43) will hold a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when play picks back up on Sunday afternoon. The Hammerheads snagged an early advantage in the top of the first when RF Tanner Allen (2-2, R, 2B) doubled to right to lead off the game. The 2021 fourth-round pick took third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by SS Bennett Hostetler (0-1, RBI).

When play starts, Daytona (44-44) will have a runner at third and one out in the bottom of the fourth inning and a 2-1 count on 1B Garrett Wolforth (0-0, BB). SS Elly De La Cruz (1-2, 3B, SO) will be at third base after leading off the frame with a triple down the right-field line.

Neither starter is expected to be on the hill when play resumes. RHP Gabriel Aguilera (4.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) of Daytona and Jupiter’s RHP Eury Pérez (3.1 IP, 2 H, B, 5 SO) will both receive no-decisions.

It’ll be an action-packed day at The Jack, as for $2, fans can purchase a “pooch pass” for their four-legged furry friend to enjoy a nine-inning vacation, as a part of a Bark in the Park Night. It will also be a Tiny ‘Tugas Night at the ballpark featuring special games and activities for all kids club members. Fans are encouraging to bring the gloves to the ballpark, as following the game fans will be able to Play/Have a Catch on the Field.

In the seven-inning finale, Daytona is expected to hand the ball to RHP Jason Parker (4-1, 3.76). Jupiter anticipates having RHP Chris Mokma (1-5, 5.94) toe the rubber. That contest will get underway approximately 30 minutes following the completion of Saturday’s suspended affair. Coverage on the Tortugas Radio Network will begin on the MiLB First Pitch app and www.daytonatortugas.com at 2:15 p.m., 15 minutes before the first pitch of game one.

Season tickets, multi-game plans, group packages, and single-game tickets are currently available and can be purchased online at www.daytonatortugas.com or by calling the Tortugas’ Ticket Office at (386) 257-3172.
